I have an old 286 computer that I have been playing with. I can't get the hard drive to boot, it says "missing operating system". I formatted the hard drive, and installed dos 6.22 onto it. I can get it to bootup from a disk but I can get it to boot up from the hard drive.

SYS C:.
Then try a different operating system. 6.0 might work where 6.2 did not. (I don't think that HIMEM.SYS that counts extended memory would cause a problem, but it might.

himem sys won't work in a 286 computer..
so edit config.sys files and remove,if its there, Himem.sys , emm386, and any reference to load high. I think dos 6.22 will automatically install himem. ???
