Compaq Lte 6x CD-Rom Problem

Hello. I've got a Compaq Lte 5100 that's running W95. Recently, I purchased a number of swappable CD-Rom drives for the 5000 series. I'm having a problem with one of them. When I insert the CD-Rom into the swappable bay, it will not allow the system to boot. Instead it asks for a boot disk to be inserted. I've gone into Bios to disable the diskette boot option, but it does not help. I also noticed in Bios that when this particular CD-Rom drive is installed that the system does not even detect the hard drive. If I wait to install the CD-Rom until the system starts to run Windows, then it works fine, but I'm just avoiding the problem. Anyone know how to fix this?

There should be an option in BIOS where you can choose the boot sequence of the laptop. Usually it will say like C,A or A,C or even CD-ROM, FLoppy, Hard Disk. Make sure that the hard drive is the first bootable device and it should work. Also if there is an option to boot from a CD, turn that off as well.
