I need to print to a printer attached by COM1 port. Help. Any good ideas on how to configure this port.

If I remember correctly first initialize the comport then send the lpt to the com. Haven't done this since using Diablo printers.
It think the first one is
mode com1: 9600,n,8,1,r
the next is
mode lpt1:=com1:
This works in DOS. Never tried in DOS box.

Wizard-Fred's advice is good.

One of his statements redirectes the parallel port to COM1 (or COM2 if you prefer)

The other sets the speed etc. of the connection. However yours may need to differ depending on how the interface is setup in the printer:-
speed
parity
databits - 8 is best
stop bits
I used p - however if you are running under windows it may not matter.

When in dos, try entering HELP or HELP MODE, which should provide an explanation of the command.

Good Luck - Keep us posted.

Windows 2000 is based on NT4 and does not allow direct port access par-se without a W2K driver.

Also you have no Standalone MS-DOS or MSDOS Prompt in W2K.

CMD.EXE = NT Command Prompt
COMMAND.COM = NT Virtual Dos Machine (loosley based on an emulation of MS-DOS 5)

Actually up the page is the Windows 2000 Forum!!!!!
