I'm a desperate hobbyist in need of the IBM setup disk for the 5162 XT/AT computer. The disk I have is now dead and won't work, I couldn't revive it, probly died of old age. The computer works fine and boots from floppy, but the CMOS battery died from the computer sitting too long, over 10 years. Hard drive and controller are fine. The whole computer is fine, actually, but is showing the wrong hard drive type (9 instead of 13)so I can't get to my files. Get a "dir" list but just can't run the files. Anyone know where I can get a copy of the setup disk for this old tank? I checked all the back postings and found nothing that can help me. The links suggested there were all dead or not what I was looking for. Thanks a bunch in advance!! Greg the plowboy.

Supposedly the setup disks for the early 80286 AT computers ave very similar. A 'clone' computer disk should work. Differences were mostly in Drive Types above 15.

I could send you an image if I knew where, if you can determine exactly which machine you have. You said XT/AT and those are two different systems. The IBM 5162 XT/286 which was an AT stuffed into an XT box. So you require the AT Diagnostics version 2.07 or later. (5 1/4 inch 360KB diskette).

Hi, I've used the program "Generic Setup" found at this website: http://www.computercraft.com/docs/prog.shtml
for many AT's that do not have built-in bios.
It worked great for me-give it a shot!

I want to graciously thank the members of this forum for helping me solve my problem. The original and correct setup program was forwarded to me via e-mail. I am impressed that there were several options for me to choose from. In 2005 there are few resources to turn to when you want to get such an old machine running. I'm going to spread the word that this web site exists. Thanks again to all of you! Greg the Plowboy.
