Hi, I've been trying to Frankensteinize all my old 386 and 486 computers to try to make a decent one to get me started on linux. I have one 486 that hasn't had a CMOS battery in over a year, and now when I try to boot it with a new battery in it beeps a lot(long beep, some short beeps, then another long beep and some shorts) but won't show anything on the screen. Is there anything I can do about this? Thank you very much in advance

1. Did you make any changes in the ribbon cables....IE: a: drive or hard drives?
If plugged in (upside down) you can get beeps.
2. Color card.....sure it is all the way?
3. Also check the power plugs to each drive.
Just made a 386 out of old parts and I think the only thing I got right the first time was the mother board and 1 hard drive.
Beep beep beep!
Hope this is of some help. Pull the new battery and see if it boots up and ask for the date. If it beeps.....see the above.

W.L. is in the right area here. After such a long time the contacts on your Graphics Card may have oxidised. By pulling and cleaning each card or cable, you can clear this up.
