MichaelN13:

With a Windows 98 boot disk that has fdisk on it type: fdisk d: /mbr that will reset the master boot record.

That syntax won't work. The mbr is the Master Boot Record and is found on the primary partiton/drive (C:) used for booting. His D: drive is a non-booting slave drive.

MichaelN13, can you be a bit more specific in the description of your problem?

You should install the drive in question into the system where it will reside. This will make it the primary drive. Then boot with a floppy which is for the O/S you're going to install on that drive. Fdisk fresh and set up the drive. This will set up the MBR for that drive in that system. Then format the drive. When complete, install the O/S.

Dan Penny, we haven't seen much of you lately. Welcome back.

How 'bout them CUBS !!!!!

Michael, fdisk /mbr only works on the primary HD, as Dan Penny stated above. Reinstall the HD into the other PC, boot with a bootdisk, then do fdisk /mbr.

HTH

Hi Dave, Thanks. I moved June 28th, started a new job June 30th. So, most of my time has gone into setting up my new place and work. I'm working on getting my first salary review pushed up. Pretty aggressive for fourteen weeks into the job. ;>) I'm on an even keel now. Good to be back.
