Help! I need to use DOS (for the first time in my life) to run a program. When trying to move to my program files directory I get an error.
I've tried a couple of ways of getting there I can get to 'windows' folder like this:

because of the space in the directory name you have to use cd "program files"
or use the short name (use "dir" to get it) cd "progra~1"

What the above poster is trying to say is that in DOS, normally Whendox "long filenames" are "truncated", so that "Whenboxdiddle" becomes "Whenbo~1" or similar. If you want to see this, just open a DOS window in aWhendos and type "dir" and I'm sure you'll see a few.
Since you say you are unfamiliar with DOS, type something like "dos commands" into Google. The very first hit, :

should be some help.

What version of DOS and Windows are you useing here? You need a version of DOS that is FAT32 enabled (i.e. MS-DOS 7.10) to handle Long File Names. A little more information would not go amiss here.
