When i ftp into my web space and use dir, i get UNIX style file permissions which is fine because i have to use UNIX at Uni so i understand these. the problem is however how do i change them from within dos when i've ftp'd in? obviously chmod is not a valid command but attrib doesn't work, besides i dont know how to use it anyway and i'm no dos guru!!! Any help is much appriciated

It all depends on whether your FTP client supports changing file attributes. Check the documentation of the client to see if/how it can be done.

are you ftp-in under DOS ? or under Windows in a DOS-box.
which is a WORLD of difference.

you cannor even HAVE the same file permissions as the UNIX files. you're not even RUNNING unix.

change it from within Windows instead.
learn windows. comeback afterwards.
Do you even know what windows you have ?
win95/98 or WinNT/2K based ?
