My children loaded a PC game on their computer and now Windows will not load. I think the hard drive is very full and want to delete some files. However, my DOS skills are pretty rusty. How do you change directories when the directory has two names, i.e., Program Files? When I "cd\window\program files", I get a tag error message or something. I appreciate any help.

In order to change directories in Win98 from a command prompt when the directory name has a space in it OR it's more than 8.3 characters, you need to use the DOS-name (the 8.3 name) for the directory. It's assigned by the OS when it's created, and can be seen by using the DIR command. The DIR command will give you the long name and the 8.3 name. They usually are pattered by the first six non-space characters, then a tilde (~), then a number (usually 1).
So "Program Files" = progra~1
However, I wouldn't start deleting files outright. It may cause more problems. Usually a game (or any other program) won't install if there isn't sufficient disk space to begin with. So simply removing files may not solve your problem.
Me thinks the game fouled up some windows system files (win.ini, system.ini, etc.) The first thing I'd do try to boot the machine in Safe-Mode (press - I think - F8 BEFORE the Windows98 Splash screen; If it's not F8, then it's F5 or F9). Then remove the software that your kids installed (via the Control Panel or the Uninstall option for that software from its folder in the Start Menu). Then reboot the machine as normal.

It's F8, and I agree with Doug - uninstalling the game seems a better option.

Thanks for the reply. The rest of the story is that windows will not load. That's why I cannot uninstall the game. I've been on several web sites trying to find solutions for this problem and getting desperate, thus, deleting games from DOS!

If your PC is booting right to DOS without any errors it may be that the PC was restarted to MSDOS.
At the DOS Prompt type Exit and hit enter. It may exit DOS and come up on windows.

F8 will take you into a menu. You can then select "Safe-Mode" (usually option 3) and try to uninstall the software after the machine boots in Safe-Mode.

Hey, what do you mean by "windows will no load"? It freezes the machine, or the system just goes to directly DOS intead of Windows?
