Hello. I have always been able to boot to cds on my computer, but recently, my computer simply ignores cds I know are bootable when starting up. In Windows 3.1, only some CDs are visible in File Manager and using the DIR command in MS-DOS. Thanks.

Have you tried a lens cleaner?
I had that problem and a cd cleaner seemed to fix it. It could also be an indication that the CD is on its way out. My kids watched so many VCDs, it actually stopped working altogether.

Check the boot order in BIOS. Usually you can set which device boots first - set it to CD-ROM.

The CD-ROM drive is set to boot after the floppy. The boot setup is in this order: Floppy CD-Rom Hard Disk.

If you can only view some CDs then it's likely not the boot order. Either those CDs are bad or, more likely, the cdrom is. A cleaning lens, as already suggested, might work. Otherwise you'll need to replace it.
