i realise you guys have probably answered this question in sort.

my cd-rom wont work when i reboot into dos. ive figured out that i need to install drivers. and ive found drivers from the manufacturer.

i downloaded them, on another computer (brand new laptop) and they are in the form of an .exe file.

considering the only other input on the computer is the floppy disc drive, how do i load them into the Win98Se box for them to work.
this is an old computer i rescued from the old lady next door so im having a wee play around lol

sorry if youve answered this before, i did search this site
any help much appreciated.
cheers
dave

As stated in the posting warnings this
forum is for stadalone DOS not the "DOS
Prompt" in Windows, maybe the W9x forum
would be more appropriate ??

sorry im a bit confused about this. i was under the impression that i wouldnt have to use the dos promt whilst in windows

do i install the drivers while im still in windows and re-boot or can i just boot straight into dos and to install them from a floppy disc without having started windows?

been searching everywhere and nobody has an easy answer.

Obviously not understanding that this is a
Standalone DOS forum, NOT W9x MSDOS PROMPT:

If you're booting to straight DOS, then it's a (usually) simple matter to setup the DOS CD drivers.

That question could be answered here or in the Win9x forums as well as others - it's a common problem with a fairly simple solution.

Driver Installation Procedure

vide-cdd.sys is another 'universal' IDE CD driver for DOS - uses a bit less RAM

You can install in either Windows or DOS, generally makes no difference. The DOS prompt achieved during a Windows session does not require the DOS drivers at all.

Give me ambiguity or give me something else

If you have a typical setup, add this line to c:\config.sys:

DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\EBD\OAKCDROM.SYS /D:CD001

And add this line to dosstart.bat in the windows folder

C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\MSCDEX /D:CD001

If dosstart.bat doesn't exist you'll need to create it. You can also load a dos mouse driver in dosstart.bat if you want dos mouse support.

One of the newer drivers such as vide-cdd.sys, as jboy suggests, or sscdrom.sys would work fine too. But Oakcdrom.sys is already on your HD.
