It's been a while since I played with DOS, but I recently got some software that runs only in DOS. (Old Jane's game)
Problem is, my computer won't recognize my CD ROM drive in DOS. Ergo, I am gameless.
What's the deal here? Game says it requires DOS 5.0 or better, but my version only says windows version something or other. (I'm running 98) Will this game ever work or is it too dated?
Thanks for any help. I just wanna blow stuff up. :-)

Hi,
Did you try to run your game in DOS box under Win98? Many games work fine and you don't need to bother about CDROM drivers.
But if your game really needs DOS mode try to use special shortcuts in Windows folder - "MS-DOS mode for games" and "MS-DOS mode for games with EMS and XMS support". Right click on the shortcut, then on the Program tab click Advanced button and then follow instructions placed in Config.sys and Autoexec.bat boxes to tune your configuration.
Good luck, Igor M

Hi,
I have the same problem but my computer runs Windows 95. It definitely doesn't work in the DOS box. Would your system work for e?
I've tried to look for the driver but I never seem to find the right one :(
I am not a computer expert but as far as I can see, my CD ROM is a NEC 272.
Help!
Eva

Hi,
To use CDROM under DOS you need to install DOS drivers for it in Config.sys and Autoexec.bat. If you not have driver for your CDROM visit www.winfiles.com or www.driverguide.com and try to find it.
And keep in mind if you just install CDROM drivers in Config.sys and Autoexec.bat files this can cause CDROM drive to work in DOS compatability mode under Win95. To avoid this you better create shortcut for your game, then open its properties, configure game to run in MS-DOS mode with individual configuration and include CDROM drivers in Config.sys and Autoexec.bat for this game only.
Good luck, Igor M
