Try a Win '95 boot disk from:

BootDisk.com

Um, is the CDROM hooked up to a sound card by any chance? Let us know.

The most basic form is:

autoexec.bat

drive:\[dir]\mscdex /d:cdrom

config.sys

device=drive:\[dir]\cdromdrv.sys /d:cdrom

Where drive is the location where mscdex.exe from the OS you are using, and the cdrom driver is stored. dir is the path to each file. cdromdrv.sys is where you place the actual real mode cdrom driver file.

If your cdrom is hooked to a sound card, you must initialize the sound card first, and then the cdrom port. In this case, load the real mode drivers for the sound card, followed by the port, and then the cdrom drive.

Along the same lines as the doof was saying, use windows 98 to create a system disk. It will attempt to load as many drivers as it takes to allow access to the cdrom drive.

All you need is OAKCDROM.SYS and DOS. It may not run your sound card: I don't know. However, it will run any IDE drive for data and installation purposes. It is found on Windows 98 and ME startup disks.
To use it put a line in the config sys and another in the autoexec.bat: Config.sys line is DEVICE=OAKCDROM.SYS /D:MSCD001 In the Autoexec.bat put MSCDEX /D:MSCD001.
The files, OAKCDROM.SYS and MSCDEX.exe have to be in the root of C:\ for these paths to work.
I will email you either OADCDROM.SYS or a windows 95 startup disk if you ask and give me an email address at fred6008@earthlink.net
