"A:\>LH C:windows\command\msdex.exe/d:nospin
file not found"

This means the driver msdex.exe is not found in the path "C:windows\command". Isn't it MSCDEX.exe instead of MSDEX.EXE? And maybe in a different path?

OK, for beginner, try this first:

DIR C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\MSCDEX.exe

Can the command DIR list the file MSCDEX.exe there? If it does, then launch a text editor, such as EDIT.COM, to open the file A:\AUTOEXEC.BAT. Change the string "MSDEX.EXE" to "MSCDEX.EXE" inside the editor window. Then save the file and quit.

If DIR can't find the file C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\MSCDEX.EXE, then you need to locate the file MSCDEX.exe on your drives first. But if you don't want to modify the files by yourself, you may download a DOS boot disk with CD-ROM support on the net, such as this one. But do you know how to use disk image to make bootable DOS disk?

Hello everyone,

Go here and download a Win98 bootdisk. I personally use the Win98 OEM one.

Do not save it directly to the floppy, download it to the hard drive on the computer you are using right now.

Once the download is complete click on the file you downloaded. You will be prompted to insert a blank floppy. Do such and click on OK.

The files will then be extracted to the floppy creating a bootdisk with CDROM support.

Insert the bootdisk into the laptop and start the computer.

Best Regards,
Mesich

Hi Shawn, Wengier, hello everyone

After starting the computer using the bootdisk select with cdrom support when prompted.

This will take you to an A:\> prompt.

Your CDROM will be bumped up one letter from what you are used to, so if you normally see it as D: it will now be E:

Insert the Windows98 CD.

At the A:\>type E: and press [Enter]

At E:\>type dir and press [Enter]

You should see a directory there named Win98. It will look like this on the screen [Win98].

If you see that we are good to go.

At E:\>type setup and press [Enter].

Best Regards,
Mesich

Hey buddy,

I'm not sure if it's a first, if it's not, it's been a couple of years. :-)

I was playing around with the RSS Feed that Justin put in place and was watching the new threads in all of the different forums. That's how I ended up in the DOS forum.

Hope everything is going well up north.

Best Regards,
Mesich

I was looking at that - I've expanded my horizons, been checking the Web Development page from time-to-time (playing at building a web page).

Things aren't bad - snow's all gone, sunny & mild (for a change) - April showers ahead though.

Good to see you in 'these parts'.

Hello everyone,

I like the new Web Development forum, it's a great addition. I've responded there several times and learned some new things also. Got 6 different sites up and running now.
mesich.com is not going anywhere, it was the first. :-) The Count and myself are adding some new additions to it real soon.

Weather has been beautiful here also. Showers moving in tomorrow though.

Nice to be here in such company as yourself.

I wonder how Shawn is making out?

Best Regards,
Mesich

Likewise : )

I still stop in at site#1 but it does seem a trifle quiet.

Definitely lots of improvements around here (thanks Justin!)

Apologies to Shawn for deflecting the thread - still, post back on how things are going.

Hello everyone,

The forum has been quite, but we never intended on that to pick up. It is more of an off-topic forum and to help with the many emails we were getting and losing track of.

The site itself, mesich.com, is doing very well for no advertising. 85,000 hits this month.

My appologies also Shawn, I shall try and not make more responses that do not pertain to your original message.

Let us know where your at.

Best Regards,
Mesich
