I got my CD rom to work by using the driver CD1.SYS off of a Windows 98 boot disk. I set it in my root directory, and set it up in my config.sys and autoexec.bat. the CD1.sys driver will allow most CD drives to be recognized if they are IDE

There is also an executable at bootdisk.com called cdindos which installs generic cdrom drivers
