Subject: Can't reboot computer even with DOS startup disk! |
Comment: I'm experiencing the same problems - old computer (486/66) and I MUST have done something wrong because when it rebooted, all I got was a blank screen (no 'loading Windows 95' or anything). I followed the instructions above, and put in my DOS 6.22 startup disk, and it just sits there now for HOURS and HOUES saying 'Starting MS-DOS'. If the boot dick won't even work what can I do? PLEASE, PLEASE could someone help me - I am at my wits end here! PLEASE!!!!

Reply: (edit)I don't know if this will help but I had a similar problem a few months ago. It turned out that the fkoppy drive had a damaged read\write head. The disk would start to boot and then it would freeze. I hope this helps.

Reply: (edit)Try a couple of things first. Open your computer, pull the cable off your CD-ROM drive, then try to boot from your boot disk. If that does nothing, try detaching your Hard drive and see if you can boot up.

Reply: (edit)I take it you have checked the BIOS for the boot order. Ignore the advice about disconnecting the CD drive, seen as the cd drive will be IDE and the floppy drive isn't. Try another boot disk created on another pc running dos or Win95 (sys a:)
