Now when I start it says "Exit to windows with CD", Then without.. I follow every step avaible, then when it says "Restarting to Windows, Please wait..", It pauses for a while, then "A:\" pops up.. Whats wrong? How do I get back to Windows? Please help me! I have a lot of Important files on there that I NEED!

Reply: (edit)If you want to get back to the C Prompt, remove the floppy and press: Enter. Then type: Win or Exit. That should take you back into Windows.

Reply: (edit) I don't think you can load windows by typing WIN after booting with a startup disk. So you have to boot with no floppy in drive A: to load windows. Incidentally, WIN and EXIT are opposites--or complimentry. When you enter DOS from windows or another multi tasking program it is called SHELLING to DOS. In almost every case EXIT and pressing enter returns you to the Multitasking GUI. With WIN you have to be in pure DOS before this will cause Windows to load. (An exception is that some versions of Windows will load when you type EXIT in DOS)

Reply: (edit)I have two computers, the older of the two running on Windows 95. The other day, however, when I turned it on, it stayed at the DOS startup screen for an unusally long time, displaying the message "Detecting HDD Primary Master". After about 30 seconds it added "...None", which apparently means the my computer has no HDD Primary Master (or atleast it isn't being detected. Anyway, it continued to the next DOS screen, where it said DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER. I had no idea why it said this, but I inserted the disk and hit enter. It said "Starting Windows 95" for a few seconds and then some other message, and I was still in DOS mode. When I calmed down and tried to access the C dirve (typed "C:\") it let me, but when i typed "dir" I found out that somehow the C drive had been changed to the CD-Rom drive (which was usually the D drive). Someone please help me get back into Windows!!!!! Thanks!
