Hi I hope you can help me.

I've read a few posts and noticed people getting FLAMED brutally for mentioning the 'W' word around here but my issue is one of DOS even though my end goal is to change my OS from WinME to Win2k

To do this I need to have access to my external USB Toshiba SD-R5112 DVD drive in DOS after booting with my boot disk.

My boot disk config.sys file is:
device=a:\himem.sys
DEVICE=a:\duse42.exe

My autoexec.bat file is this:
MSCDEX /d:MSCDROM /S /M:15 /V

The following messages appear on boot up.

DUSE version 4.2 Build 65 Release (General)
DOS USB Stack Driver with USB Storage Extensions
Copyright Cypress Semiconductor, 2000-2002

USB CD ROM Support Enabled
USB Drive Support Enabled

<<Pop up error message>>
USB storage device detected
Failed to load USB storage device
<<Pop up error message>>

MSCDEX/D:MSCDROM /S /M:15 /V
Device driver not found: 'MSCDROM'
No valid CDROM device drivers selected

After the above message I get an A prompt and I can switch to the D prompt but when I type dir at the D prompt I get 'Invalid unit reading drive D" and "Volume in drive d has no label" and "Fail on INT 24"

I gather from the autoexec.bat line that I don't have the right driver but I've actually tried entering several different drivers all of which are on my boot disk and I get the same message everytime that the driver is not found.

So what's the problem? I hope you can help me! Thanks

As WinME supports USB drives why not just upgrade to W2K ??

USB for MS-DOS and compatibles is not natively supported, that started in W95 OSR2.x, and even the writers of the DOS drivers do not claim they always work.

Found this as well!!
