You would really get a much better response by posting your question(s) in the Windows 95/98 forum.
Try and explain your problem clearly and give as many relevant details as you can.

Hi,
I guess you mean that w98 is installed but won't start Windows GUI because himem.sys is missing.
If so, go to a 98SE PC that works properly and findm the file
dir c:\windows\himem.sys /s
Then copy it to a floppy:
A:\>copy/b c:\windows\system\himem.sys
Then take it home and copy it to yours:
A:\>copy/b himem.sys c:\windows\system\
I think that's the right directory. When you do the 'dir' on the donor PC, you'll know where it belongs.

If this machine was working, you better take a hard look at why the himem.sys went missing and what else is missing/busted.HTH

You need to start your PC before you can copy any file.
Download the relivent Windows 98 Bootdisk (98 or 98se) from my PowerLoad Bootdisk Project Page (Link above) and boot your PC with this. If it starts with no problems. Transfer the Himem.Sys from the Bootdisk to \Windows\System as described above.
Each Windows 9x Bootdisk contains the basic DOS files to start and setup Windows on a harddisk.
With a little luck this may be your only problem, but be aware other problems may follow.
