can not format c drive

Hi, I did the Partitioning of the Hard disk and now I would like to format the drive c, I have created only one partition. but when i write camand format c: it give me error
"invalid drive, or format not supported" can any one tell me what is a problem, thanks in advance.

When booting from the XP CD it has all the required tools without using any version of MS-DOS.

Another option that works very well.......
Go to Bootdisk.com and get there windows 98 OEM bootup disk After you download this file and after clicking on it to activate it, you will be asked to insert a fresh 1.44mb floppy disk in your A: drive and this will make a bootup disk for you. When finished, keep this floppy in your computer and reboot, the floppy will boot and give all kinds of tools available such as FDisk, Format using this floppy at the A:\> prompt type format C: enter
