Comment: They say my printer is not DOS compatible i have DOS programs that i need to print in daily. I got a really good deal on this laser printer (Brother HL 1030) it works great in windows but nothing in my DOS program just a blank sheet every time. My question is there any way around this ? Can i get this printer to print in DOS and is there any way i can test it in DOS to see if it prints ? thank you.

Reply: (edit)In dos at the c: prompt press the print screen button on the keyboard to see if it will print. I have a Brother hr-40 that prints great in dos but it is an old daisy wheel printer. Also all dot matrix printers print in dos. At least all 6 of mine do.

Reply: (edit)The Brother HL 1030 will not print in dos. Sorry. Well maybe if you are lucky enough to find some dos drivers but I really dont think so. And the above message is right all dot matrix printers will print in msdos. I have an OKIDATA MICROLINE 320 dot matrix printer that prints excellent in dos.

Reply: (edit)Check at the web site for both Brother and the software maker. There are a couple of things to look for: The software maker may have some updated printer drivers (prefered) and they will almost certainly have a list of compatible printers that they do have drivers for. Brother should have a list of printers that your printer "emulates". Check both lists and see if there are any matches. You may be able to use one of the emulated drivers.

Reply: (edit) Get the print.exe command from DOS 6 or 6.2 and use SETVER.exe in the config.sys. I am probably wrong--remember the Winmodem, but so far as I know any printer that hooks to the parallel port will print in dos. It is a matter of getting a driver.
