Comment:

During start up my system hangs at: Building DMI Pool.
I just bought all new parts and it just hangs. I guess there is something in BIOS since I don't even get to DOS...

I have this:
Abit SE6, PIII-733(133) 370pins, 133Mhz 256Mb (2x128) memory. Have a 3.5" disk and my old IBM 16.8 HD attached.

Thx for any help!

DMI is the BIOS trying to pass control on to DOS. DMI provides DOS with information like your hard drive parameters and is the last activity by BIOS during the bootup process before DOS begins to load.

The most common fix for this would be to go into BIOS setup and choose the "factory default" setting to reset BIOS to it's like new state. If you have auto drive detection, set the hard drive setting to "auto".

Of course, make sure your drive connections are in good shape.

Same problem here with an ABIT SH6 mobo. Have cleared CMOS, loaded factory defaults, tinkered with Force ECSD setting, but no luck. Getting ready to return motherboard, unless someone know a fix?

i have the same problem with a Tyan Tiger-133. i am running two 400-mc Pentium II processors. The BIOS is Award v1.02. Tyan wouldn't even answer my e-mails about the problem, so i sent the board back to the vendor. i got the replacement board thursday (feb. 8) and it has the same problem.
i was curious as to the comments about passing DOS drive information, because i am running SCSI in this machine and never get the SCSI BIOS message that i get on other machines. i've tried disabling all the other drives in the Award BIOS with no success. thus i wonder if it's ever getting to the point of passing drive information.
