Comment:

I have a CD which contains all DR DOS files, including the hidden IBMBIO.COM and IBMDOS.COM files. However, I do not have the system disk available.

I tried just copying those files to my hard disk (overwriting MS-DOS 6.22) but the hard disk will not boot. I am quite sure that the problem is that the master boot record on the hard disk still refers to DOS 6.22.

When I book from a floppy into DOS 6.22, DR DOS's sys will not run, as it does not recognize the OS. Therefore I can't figure out how to create a DR DOS-bootable hard disk or floppy.

I know that there are entries in the master boot record that specify what OS to run, but i have only a passing familiarity with it (i have the hex layout printed out). I also don't have a disk editor handy to change the values. . .

Anyone have any ideas? Is there something simple I have overlooked? Does anyone have a bootable DR DOS 5.0 (or 6.0) floppy?

Any help would be appreciated.

-Scott

Hi,

You can't make disk C: bootable by just copying files on it, but you can do this with floppy disk. Try this. Make bootable floppy in DOS 6.22. Then delete all files from it including hidden and system files. Then copy IBMBIO.COM, IBMDOS.COM and Command.com files from your DR-DOS CD. It's very important to copy those files one by one in specified order - 1st IBMBIO.COM, then IBMDOS.COM, and then Command.com. Copy Sys.com to the floppy. Now you can boot DR-DOS from this floppy and use SYS C: command to transfer system files to C: drive and make it bootable.

Good luck, Igor M
