You want to make a boot diskette that allows you to boot from the hard drive?

Think about that for a while.

I'm trying to make the disk to where if you do not choose nither it will than bypass the bootup and than just boot to c drive.I plan to use it to make a bootable dvd.

That's called 'rebooting' - remove the disk and restart the computer.

I don't think you really 'get' what it means to boot to an OS - once you've started a DOS session from one boot source, that's it. If you want to start another from a different source, you have to end the original session & reboot.

Your 'option 1' is considerably different from options 2 & 3 - accessing a CD drive is quite different than booting from it.

Just what version of DOS will you be using?

A bit unrealistic - an XP boot CD is not using DOS, for one thing, and what you describe is NOT the same thing that you claim you're trying to achieve.

Why would you use a bootdisk in order to boot from an already bootable hard drive??

Seems like yet another Windows based "DOS" question - suggest you take this to the appropriate Windows or programming forum

Well, just a guess - but likely what you want to do has already been done:

Madboot

Ultimate Boot CD

Hiren's Boot CD

etc. etc.

Is this not a BIOS function??????

No, not a bios function, this would need to be done in the master boot record which can point to various boot sectors.

The problem with adding with or without cdrom support to the mbr is you would need to have separate partitions or drives to point to. Although this might be a bit of a moot point if you are booting from a DVD.

I've got a boot floppy here somewhere (sorry don't know its name at the moment) and when booted from it as if I want to boot from
floppy 0
floppy 1
HD 0
HD 1
CD 0
CD 1

The above all seems to be in the boot sector of the floppy. I found it useful for some of my older machines that didn't have a boot from CD option in the bios.

I guess as this process is before booting an O/S then it belongs neither in the DOS or Windows areas?

It's not exactly clear from your other post just what you found - your explanation is more than a little fuzzy.

Ah, well - as long as you're happy I suppose
