Does anyone know how to create a bootable DOS cd or else where to find good instructions for doing so. Any help appreciated.

Bootable CD's don't work the way floppy/hard drives do. There isn't a boot strap portion of the drive and you can't use sys.com to create a bootable CD.
Instead, you burn a CD-R disk using ISO 9660 compatable software. ISO 9660 is an industry standard that allows CDs to be read by varying types of computers (IBM, Mac). The ISO 9660 standard includes a system for creating a "table of contents" which includes a system for identifying bootable files. Computers set to boot using a CD device will look for boot files on a CD that conform to the ISO-9660 standard.
Read the manual/help file that came with your CD burner. Look for ISO 9660 and learn the instructions for making a bootable CD-ROM.

I installed DOS on a small drive and then made a bootable C: image of it to CD using Nero Burning Rom 4.0. The nice folks on this forum pointed me to the xmsdsk ramdisk manager utility, and to the McFadden CD-ROM FAQ for more info. I forget the URL but a search using Google will show those sites. Try it with a rewriteable CD and have fun.

PC Connection sells a DOS 6.22 upgrade kit that will make a start-up disk. It's around $45.
