hi i have a usb hard drive and would like to boot win98 off of it. i installed the OS and can boot fin when i remove the drive from the usb case and use it as a regular hard drive. I also have a usb ahrd drive dos driver which i rip off a bios and then did some assembly patching. it wroks, dos starts, then usb.exe is executed(i do so in the config.sys) the usb hard drive is detected but when it tries to load win98, blue screen (vfat error. Any body have a better driver or knows how to load win98 off usb HD. Oh yeah, the motherboard supports usb for dos, but enabling this does nothing for me. Infact i must disable it else my usb HD driver crashes.

Computers can't boot from any USB drive because the BIOS does not support it.

True, correction meant to say: "boot off floppy (A:) to dos then run win98 off usb harddrive.

I would think that is happening because Windows is trying to get direct access to the drive. Windows 98 does not have all of it's USB drivers loaded yet. So, a crash. I don't think it is possible, because while the USB drivers are loading, it messes up the USB drive because it is overiding the DOS USB driver, but the DOS USB driver was being used to boot. There is just no way that can happen.
