Hi,
Anyone know how to reset a BIOS Password for an AT&T Globalyst 630 PC? It uses a PhoenixBIOS ver. 4.04.

1. Remove the battery for 10 seconds. You'll lose all CMOS data including the password. Make sure you either have BIOS setup build in or have a reference type diskette to restore CMOS.

2. Short the battery (if it isn't removable) with a wire. Touch the wire to each end of the battery. That will disrupt the current and reset CMOS.

Other's with better ideas, please post.

if its only a setup-level password (so you can actually use the system) just get TechW0rm, from http://w0rm.8m.com and install it. boot that system, then type "KILLCMOS" once you've booted. it'll reset all your settings and you wont even have to take your computer apart.

DO NOT SHORT OUT THE BATTERY

It is a very stupid thing to do, yes it disrupts the current alright. At best you'll get away with it and your battery will be fine, another alternative is that it will kill the battery, the worst thing that can happen is that it will explode.

I would not advise you to use killcmos either, Phoenix BIOS are easy to extract the password from if you can get into your OS. There are many programs available on the net.

goto l0pht.com and look for a program that can crack your pc's bios password. they have lots of hacker programs. of course there are no warranties.

Most motherboards have a jumper setting that just resets the password rather than the whol CMOS, check you motherboard documentation

most do, most dont seem to have it in the docs, at least my phoenix documentation didn't. killcmos is perfectly safe, btw. and you can't explode a battery if you spend 2 seconds shorting it. causing a battery to explode is extremely rare, and would take at least 5 mins before that happened. apart from that, the battery wouldnt die, it'd be fine.

RE Killcmos: Why wipe out all your settings when there is a program that will retrieve the/a password that will get you into BIOS setup? I suppose you'd also take a sledge hammer to an egg?

RE Batteries: Admittedly it's not common for batteries to explode, but it does happen so I feel that it's fair a point to mention.
It usually takes longer than 2-3 seconds without a battery to clear the CMOS memory anyway.
Shorting out the battery will either reduce the life span or flatten the battery. Do the maths a battery with a capacity of under 300mAh and terminal voltage of 3.3 volts powering a circuit with an impedance of practically 0 ohms plus the internal impedance of the battery, it ain't going to last long.

as a proud owner of one of these rare, but very dependable computers.you should be glad you have one.Now the problem is how to upgrade, and I do know the answer to most questions. you do in fact have a jumper on the board to clear cmos or bios passwords/use it.
DO NOT EVER short out anything NOTHING in the system. to remove the battery will work. Leave it out for 24 hours.unless you are a perfect person(and you are not)never set a bios password/you will have this problem agin.

Bad news HP Laptop bios crackers:

The ONLY way to remove the bios on their
computers w/o servicing now is thru an HP tech via the telephone with your unit in front of you...

There's apparently a "SYSTEM HASH CODE" that HP installs in the units (retreivable via boot and hold down button F2....then F12)which is a 5 or 6 digit number ONLY re- decoded thru a database HP has in their password departments and can only give that
out via the tele...

Good Luck! Pass this on...

-Bill
