What exactly is flashing the bios and how do I do it? I've thought about upgrading mine because its from April, 2000 but I've heard alot of things about doing it wrong and what not. If I do decide to do it is there a way to take it back? My board has jumpers where I can short out and clear the bios but I don't know if that would return it to its original state. I don't have a install disk for the board.

Unless there's a very good reason to flash your bios, don't. Many people think that flashing the bios will fix a lot of problems. Also some people have found that they have less features after flashing. A two year old bios shouldn't really need an "update".
A "flash" is a piece of software that changes the parameters of a cmos chip which the bios information resides on. The utility usually contains a means of copying and saving the current version for re-placement in case you want to go back. The utility and the new bios information file are copied to a bootable floppy. No memory managers or anything else of that nature are loaded. The machine is booted "bare-bones". The utility is started, the new bios information file is entered and read, which changes the bios parameters, and the machine is rebooted with the new information/features.
In some cases, a "bad" flash can be corrected, but usually it's a new bios chip that's required to make things right again. Not to scare you, if all instructions are followed to the letter, you should have no problems. But I wouldn't do it unless there's good reason. If you do, read all instructions carefully.

Thanks for the info...good thing I decided not to do it. I don't feel like going in the backyard and picking from the money tree again.
