when i go start>programmes>MS-DOS prompt, or Run>(type)'command'or double-click on a (white square with blue top border) my mouse curser freezes & crashes my system (W98).i am told i have no DOS mouse driver,so got CTMOUSE.com which does not support my ps2 mouse.all i want to do is learn about running DOS programmes.(i can get into shutdown & restart in DOS mode) but cannot get the MS-DOS window working. Help is appreciated !!!

Steve I don't know if this will help, but I can tell you what happened to me in a similar situation.
I had display driver software for my video card that, under windows DISPLAY PROPERTIES -> SETTINGS ->ADVANCED -> ADJUSTMENT, allowed me to stretch the screen to max length and width. I forced mode 600 x 800 using a VGA monitor. The windows screen looked very nice, but when I tried going into a dos window, my computer froze just as you describe.

...by the way if your mouse pointer is working fine moving about the screen in windows, you don't need any extra drivers loaded for your mouse. Check in your autoexec.bat, system.ini, start folder and remove any extra mouse drivers that are there. Restart, then check in "system properties" to make sure your windows mouse is ok. If you can freely move about in windows then a mouse pointer will be available in any dos window that you open.
