I have written a console application that takes in various agruments and returns a pipe delimited string. I need to first figure out how to set the response to a variable, then I think i use a for command to loop thru the values much as in a split command. I am a batch file newbie, so any help would be appreciated.

Your question is absolutely obscure, so first of all explain clearly what you want to achieve. Then there is no DOS in Windows Vista as that is a NT kernel system, so you need a NT batch script that has nothing to do with the legacy plain DOS batch.

Post your question (better explained) in the Programming Forum where there are batch-skilled gurus waiting to help.
