I'm lookin for some help in creating a batch file that will enter data into the autoexec.bat file by comparing the hostname of the computer with a data file that list the hostname and the veritable that is Designated for that computer.

So far I've find parts of what I'm looking for. ie displaying IP and hostname, displaying and opening other files from a bat. The main problem is how I write this all out doing the "IF" cmd.

Any help would be welcomed.

You could be more specific on this:

Is the hostname in a variable? If yes, what's its name? How's that data file, I mean, how is the hostname stored on it? It would be good if you gave a detailed example of that data file.

What data should be entered in the autoexec, depending on the comparison?
