Hi,
I am having issues with installing my Soundblaster AWE64Gold in to the PC. I boot straight to dos eah time, to install the drivers i have a file downloaded from creative sb64basic.exe but when i infalte this it has an install cammand using it , it initiallises but then tells me that I am running widows 95 and that this program is only for dos and win 3.1 ............ How can i get this install program to run or get the right drivers for my sound blaster loaded in the autoexec.bat.
After inflate there are no actual driver files, they must be extracted when you install...
Please someoine help me!!!!

Either; Restart in DOS mode (Start/Shut Down/etc), or, fresh boot and hold down F8 (if I remember correctly) to get the boot menu, and choose Command Prompt Only. Then do your install.

Sorry, just re-read your post. You say you are going to dos. I've got
a cd for the AWE64 and it has the installations for 95 and Win3.1/DOS
(plus WebPhone and other junk). Re-visit the creative site and try to
find the installation for your O/S.If that fails, maybe we can work on transferring the files to you via
email, folder by folder. The sub-folder for the Win3.1/DOS install
contains 19 sub-folders, (21.8 MB ttl) and the 95 sub-folder contains
11 sub-folders(22.4 MB ttl). Or, we could use AIM if you have it. (I
installed it to help someone in Oklahoma (through this forum) on an
fdisk problem.)Here's the README.1ST file from the root of the cd;

Thanks for all that information,
But I think you may have slightly missunderstood the problem.
I know that I have the right files to amke it work, the only problem is the installation program that contains the drivers will not work under my version of dos, it thinks I am trying to install under windows 95 or above. I am not sure what it looks at for this install ... I am guessing the ver number of DOS.
I also can't install using 98 or 95 because besides already removing most of the windows file (i intend to only operate dos) the drivers will not be the same as the ones need to run under dos.
All I really want is the Drivers I don't think I will need any of the other programs as I all I am trying to do is make a standalone dos based mp3 player, therefore i don't need any fancy functions just sound and thats it. I have three options to get this card to work,1. I install an earlier version of dos
2. I trick the install program into thinking i have an earlier version of dos
3. I get just the drivers for dos as seperate files and use these alone.any help will be greatly appreciated.
