Has anyone tested the Arachne 1.64 Browser?

Any suggestions or pointers would be appreciated!

It is only a good browser if run on modern equipment (very fast hard drive to cache all pages, plenty of memory, fast processor is a necessity!)
If you want a graphical browser for a fast DOS machine, Arachne should work fine (I have used 1.64), but if you are trying to get an older, slower machine on the internet, visit http://www.fdisk.com/doslynx/ for a large list of DOS browsers. Download Lynx for DOS if you will use it on a 386 or better. Get Bobcat (very nice, using right now over my 2400modem)

arachne works on old machines. it takes a little work is all. make sure you got smartdrv.exe runnin', you deleted the graphix from the arachne directory, you're runnin' on 640x480, and you've got optimal memory settings. works for me.

I've got an old 286 ps2 with a 1meg ram. The program runs a little slow, but I think the code runs great and it's functional. I have yet to make it browse the internet b/c I can't get it to access my ISP's DNS server (makes a great desktop, though.) If you don't have a VESA card your resolution options are very limited. Oh, and be careful where your temp directory is set in your autoexec.bat; DOS set mine as the DOS directory on installation, and Arachne wiped out that directory.
