Hi Yall,
I've just installed a new ISA modem in my Dos box. THe modem dials fine, but the computer is having trouble logging in. Can anyone help? The terminal prompts for my username and password. I entered both correctly, but it keeps saying "authentication failed." I am 100% sure I typed in the right password, and I was able to log in using my normal Windoze PC. I know very little about dial-up. All I know is that when I log in using Windoze, it says it's using PPP and CHAP. I went through the Arachne PPP Setup Wizard, and I think I did everything correctly. Unfortunately, something is not right.Ki

I presume that the the setup wizard
auto-detected the modem correctly and that
you set the maximum speed to 115,000.Did you supply the ISP's DNS ??? when using
the wizard. If this is still a problem download the
full version a179GPLF and undertake a fresh
full install. Try using the alternative
LSPPP instead some details here:http://www.mwpms.uklinux.net/page5.htm
Also if still stuck try the Arachne Chat
at:http://www.cisnet.com/glenmcc/aqc/
There was a discussion some time back about
this problem, it comes down to the way some
ISP configure there servers, but here in
the UK 99% of the time the Wizard does find
an ISP for me!

Hi,
Yes, the Setup Wizard detected my modem. Yes, it set the speed to 115,000. I can hear the modem dial and the sound that modems make. So, I think the modem is working fine.Regarding the DNS, I'm not completely sure I have it right. The way I got the DNS was that I went to my Windoze XP computer, logged into my ISP, wrote down the "Server IP Address" displayed by Windoze, and used this address as the DNS. Is this right?
Thanks.
Ki

The DNS is supplied by your ISP.
If your ISP will not supply use the LSPPP
dialler as it does not need the DNS under
most circumstances.

Ki,
Getting authenticated is not a DNS issue.
I haven't messed with DOS dialup for a long time, but look at your dialup properties and find the security section.

it could be something like one of the protocals that the program uses to connect to the internet
If you have anything dos related email me and i'll do something bout it
