Arachne will dial and connect, but then when i type in an address, nothing happens, except the "can't open connection" error. I know its connected and it will work because i entered an ip address for a friend's site and that worked but something like http://www.google.com just will not work. What's the problem? It worked great for my friend's site, so I'm anxious to get it working right.

Check your settings, this could be a number of things but your connection settings "could" be wrong.

Example:
If your dial up setting are ok, you'll connect.
But if your data flow settings are wrong, your modem wont be able to receive data (web pages).

Make sure you didnt skip any important settings, Run the setup wizard again, if you did it manually you may of missed something.

Sounds like a DNS problem to me. Are the IP addresses for the DNS servers your ISP uses specified correctly? If you don't have them here's what you do: if you have Windows 9x or higher (yes I know I'm cheating, but I'm lazy :) )go ahead and dial up then go to the start button, them click on "Run". Enter winipcfg, hit the button "more info" and the DNS server ip addresses should be specified, assuming win9x(or whatever) is configured properly to connect to the internet. Else, call your ISP and they should have the ip addresses for you. Maybe someone here in this forum can give you a better true "dos" method than me to find this info out. But in any case, I hope this helps!

you dont need to dial up under windows.

lsppp by David Lindauer will automatically 'grab' your DNS from your ISP just like Windows does.

Just edit your arachne.cfg so that it has the "Connection READY" and "IP_Address BOOTP" settings, then dial with LSppp and run arachne and you'll be online.
