i had already got my USB external HDD work in DOS in my desktop. here, thanks the ppl helped me again. :)

about the detail of how the HDD can work. see here :
http://computing.net/dos/wwwboard/forum/13589.html

now i am trying to use in my notebook. but my notebook has no USB 2.0 ports(my USB HDD comes with USB 2.0), just USB 1.0. it's so bad. so i bought a USB 2.0 PORTS PCMCIA cardbus for it. Sure that i can use the HDD in windows OP, but Can the HDD work through the PCMCIA cardbus in dos?

Try the Panasonic 2.06 USBASPI driver in combination with the Motto Hauri driver:

see www.mwpms.uklinux.net/usbfire.txt for download links.

Change your line in boot disk device=duse to the following 2 lines:

device=usbaspi.sys /w/v
device=di1000dd.sys

btw USB 2.x is backward compatible but just slower........

No if you read the page at www.mwpms.uklinux.net/usbfire.txt, you will find that some PCMCIA cards will not need "Card and Sockets Services" software, this was evaluated by MadMaxUSB and included in my list by kind permission.

Just try it and if not recognised then you will need software, email me and can give you a link.

USBASPI.SYS seems to have limited support for a specific "standard" for Cardbus implementations.

Otherwise, you will need drivers for Card & Socket Services to remap the resources used so the PC Cards can be comatible with your application.

Check out this link for the details:

Hi tienchi,

I have an old Notebook that works very well with "Pcmcia Carbus Usb 2.0" and with chipset Nec connected to an external disk usb 2.0 (high speed).

you have to add in "Config.sys" this lines :

device=usbaspi.sys /v /w of Panasonic (version 2.06) and /v for verbose, /w for wait

device=di1000dd.sys of Novac version 2.00

With "Ghost 2003" you dont need to load "Guest.exe" in autoexec.bat

Enjoy!!!
