I formated my drive and tried to intall win98, but gave me errors before I started running setup (go windows :P only you can make computers hard) So I installed 3.11 no problems what so ever, but wait... I try to run it... it says I have the wrong kind of dos version for it. I get a bootdisk for 6.22, and now when I run it with the bootdisdk I can't get into my C: (where the windows is)

Hi
First off. I think you may have some hardware problems. Whats the specs of your machine? If you don't know, a rough age of the machine would help. Also what is the size (roughly) of the hard drive.
What I would suggest are some diagnostics.
(You will need access to another computer to create the bootable diskettes)Visit Ontrack/kroll has a disk tester with a bilt in memory tester.

I'm not sure what you're doing, but mixing various Operating Systems and shells is just going to lead to confusion.
DOS622 cannot access disks formatted as FAT32 by Win98 - this is the 'large disk support' required for drives or partitions over 2Gb, but smaller drives can be FAT32 as well.
Best to use a Win98 bootdisk
Windows 3.1 will not work properly with the DOS from Win9x - there's a way around that, but I think you should concentrate on setting up 98 first - if that is your intention.
If you're receiving errors, it would be helpful to know what they are - then again, Windows 98 questions would be better answered in the forum devoted to that version of Windows.
Why don't they make computers that will do what we think we want them to do?

when I try from the original win98 setup cd:
Can not run this in DOSwhen I try from the update win98 setupc cd:
This program need a version of Windows

Well, I would suggest you get yourself a Windows 98 bootdisk from the posted link (you have to run the program to create the actual bootdisk) for starters.
You should consider posting in the Windows 95/98 forum, with a detailed explanation of your situation.

There's a patch, 3xstart.exe
Maybe that'll solve your problems... and maybe it won't

Ok, that's great.
DOS install "should" work if using an OEM Windows 98 disc (non upgrade) - upgrade discs often need to be run from Windows.
