Comment: I am trying to delete a file and am told that access is denied. I have run DOS without any other applications open in Windows Millennium and it states that there is a sharing violation. How can I delete this without causing this error? How can I use DOS without Windows - can I interrupt during start-up?

Reply: (edit)Could be that the file is in use by windows. Windows ME does not have dos anymore, so is similar to win2K. If you want to go to DOS you need a boot disk, preferaby one for win98. But what is the file and why do you want it deleted?? Let me know....

Reply: (edit)Hmmm. I am still trying to get win95 running to my satisfaction......lol But I am wondering if "wipe" will get rid of it. Wipe or wipeit are usefull tools in the right hands.....deadly in the wrong. Perhaps some has used it one your os. Just a thought. W.L.

Reply: (edit) Yes, access denied usually means some file like Command.com has a read only attribute. So as the last previous post said you need to enter Attrib -r and the file name in DOS.
