Comment:

I just got a used hard drive with nothing on it but the Windows 98 version of DOS. The only Windows version I had to install was Windows 3.1, so I had to get a DOS 6.22 boot disk to get into it. However, when I use the boot disk, I can only acces my floppy drive and use DOS from there. Does anyone know how to get into the hard drive? I tried typing C:, but it said invalid drive specification. The boot disk has mscdex, so is there a way I am supposed to use that?

Win95B, Win98 etc uses the FAT32 file system on large (2Gb+) hard drives. DOS622 can't read it.

Any idea how large the HDD is?

Try a boot disk from Bootdisk.com

Win31 isn't compatable with Win9x DOS versions unless you use the 3xstart patch. To install Win31 on that machine, likely you'd either need the patch or repartition and format using/installing DOS622

MSCDEX.EXE is used to load CD drives.

Thanks. However, I just installed that version of DOS and formatted the drive. Now, I can run Windows.
