A drive ignored on boot up

I cannot boot up my PC via my boot disk. The A drive is detected but the system goes straight to windows. Can anyone help ???

Not, strictly speaking, a DOS question.

Have you checked the BIOS setup and ensured that the floppy is set as the first boot device? That's usually the cause.

I agree with jboy, while it looks like a DOS problem, it is more than likely a hardware one! But warrants an answer here anyway:

Your BIOS can be set to Boot A > C or C > A and in some newer BIOS's any combination A > C > CD > (The letters are in the order which your machine will look for a bootable device)

It sounds like yours is set to C > A which is quite common to protect your PC from DOS Boot Viruses.

Oh sure - all I was getting at was they could have gotten the same answer in the Win9x or hardware forum (and maybe a little sooner).

I always feel that the difference between a hardware problem or a DOS one is not always clear. In this case we make the assumption that it is the BIOS that is at fault, however it could be even more simple i.e. He is not using a bootdisk at all! or as in one previous query the floppy disk had a disk image copied directly onto it. In most cases if the original poster never returns, we may never know!
