I have a problem that just won't quit...
I had a hard drive I repartitioned to PRIMARY DOS partition, set it as active, then tried to format it. I continually get the following error: "Error writing FAT. Format terminated"

I performed a low-level format with the HDD manufacturer's utility and did an integrity check. There is NO physical damage to the disk.

I really feel as though I have a NASTY boot sector virus. Any ideas on how I can overcome these problems? Thanks.

1 - try turning off boot sector virus protection in bios.

2 - to get rid of boot sector viruses, type:

FDISK /mbr

this re-writes the master boot record and overrites any viruses held there.

FORMAT /U does the same thing and is safer to use!

U = UNCONDITIONAL and wipes the Hard Drive and MBR Clean.
