Whats the fastest way of converting a XviD to a DVD quality MPEG? I have done this with Nero but it takes ages is there any better software available for this task?

It takes ages with any program. From my experience, Nero does a reasonable job.
Do yourself a favor BACKUP!

try using winavi converter. fasted converter I have found so far. I use it to convert large avi dvix files (700mb) to dvd format. I use roxio to burn to dvd.
