I have several films on my harddrive that are in avi or wmv format. Whenever I try to write them onto a dvd to watch on my dvd player I have problems. I try to use either Nero or Nero Express or Nero Vision Express. Using Nero burning ROM gives me all kinds of confusing options that I have no idea about, such as the first screen which asks me whether I want to write a video CD, super CD or mini DVD. Using Express or Vision Express, if I try to write onto CD I get told that the file is too big to fit, and if I try to use a DVD I get told that the DVD is the wrong format. Help! I just want to watch my films in the comfort of my own lounge on the DVD player, not infront of the computer.

I would guess your "wrong format" message has to do with PAL vs NTSC formats. If you are in the USA it should be NTSC. You may be trying to burn in a format that is different than the region setting on your burner.
In NeroVision check your settings by clicking More at the bottom of the screen and then Video Options. Make certain that the region code (under properties) in your DVD burner is set properly also.

I use Nero express 2, start the wizard, make dvd\dvd video \add video files. Under the more button at the botton, DE-select create menu & never use black thumbnails

next\next (again) write to hard disk folder. then wait, it takes me about 3-4hours.

This should create the vob files.

If near the start of the wizard it says the file is too big to fit on a 4.3gb video. I use an avi file splitter to create 2 files, then follow the wizard for each of these to create 2 sets of vob files.
Then using nero recode, add multiple dvd's to create one.

Note, you need the dvd plugin, to make dvd's

Before posting try google. Backup. Use anti virus software.

It sounds like nero is not seeing your burner as a DVD burner but rather a CD burner.

Dumb question... but people have made this mistake before... Are you sure it is an actual D V D burner?

If nero for some reason is having trouble seeing your dvd burner... or it is in fact NOT a dvd burner, then you will only get CD options and it will only look for and see cd disks.

Nero Vision Express should do the whole process in about 2 hours. That means encoding it and burning it on a DVD. There are faster programs around. I use WinAvi to encode, and Nero Express to burn. Seems to be the fastest, and most accurate for me.

I wonder what'll happen if I do this ?
