Why is it that NO dual-layer Lightscribe DVD media is being made? Seems that in the world of computers, every once in a while you have two technologies that SHOULD exist together, but don't.

I guess its hard to burn digital media AND pictures of anything on your computer on the SAME SIDE of a 4.7g disk...aint lightscribe single discs good enough?

We do not have the answer for you. Redirect your question to the manufacturers.

The manufacturers say nothing other than that it's "not available."

I would guess that the reason is because lightscribe is a fad. Double-layer discs are still fairly expensive and the people that buy them are either interested in just the capacity (i.e. don't care about professional looking labels and just use a sharpie) or do it the right way and buy printable disks that you can print full color images on instead of the grey only lightscribe.
Or it could be a physical limitation in that the lgihtscribe surface needs it's own burnable layer and this may make it impossible to have two burnable layers on the opposite side.
If you want really good looking discs go buy an printer that can print CD/DVD discs (you can get one for under $100). The printable discs are actually cheaper than the lightscribe discs, you can get them in dual-layer, and the results are infinitely better.

Absolutely. They are regular inkjet printers that also have a "carriage" in which you can use CD/DVD disks.
The models that Epson offers with this feature are isted on the right of the page above. I buy printable media online at about $0.15/ea. in quantities of 50 or more.

The CD/DVD-only thermal printers seem to run about a grand.

And your point is? I'm talking about inkjet printers that double as CD/DVD printers that start at about $80.

All I was saying is that by searching CD/DVD printers that's all that came up.
I wonder if my i470D has an attachment for CD printing.

Why search? I gave you a link that listed all of the Epson printers that support CD/DVD printing. In fact, a google search for "CD DVD printing" came up with the same link I provided as the first result.
