Solved Why can't I view some of my recovered jpeg images?

November 12, 2011 at 19:12:05
Specs: Windows Vista

The other day, I accidentally deleted all my camera photos off the USB I had saved them on. I was able to recover them using this software.

But now I have a bunch of images that when I try to click on, say "Can't read file header! Unknown file format or file not found!"

Is there anyway for me to get these photos back?

They have probably been corrupted or partially overwritten before recovery.
because of that, they cannot be fixed.

So there's no way at all that I can recover the photos at all?

✔ Best Answer

try another free tool like recuva, and see if the pics are OK. DON'T use the cam card for ANY pics because it will kill your chances of a good recovery.

At odd times I have found that IrfanView (free viewer) can read bad files which can then be resaved.

DO NOT try this until you have exhausted "all" attempts to recover because any further activity could reduce your chances.

I've tried using both recuva and IrfanView before using the software I ended up using.

I've redownloaded recuva, and for some reason, nothing is poping up with I switch to advance mode.

I know before advance mode was working fine for me...

As for IrfanView, they were not able to read the files I tired out.

I've only used Recuvva on very rare ocassions (tend to backup everything) and never even used the advanced feature.

If you pop in the USB device, scroll down to it in the drop-down at the top of Recuvva, then hit the Scan button, does this show any of the missing files? With luck this should not be too time consuming because camera cards are not usually that massive.
