My wife misses seeing her family in Uzbekistan and they are only able to get dial-up in the house. All the web cams list Broadband but it is not possible to get broadband on the Uzbekistan side. Any ideas? Who's software would be best suited for this? Their computer is a Toshiba Satellite with an 1800mhz or higher processor but only 256mb of ram. I am relatively intelligent (depends on who you talk to though!) and can set it all up but I don't know enough about the systems and software to choose one. Don't want to ship one half way around the world to have it be the wrong one. Thanks. Rad

Unfortunately, you're problem lies not in the hardware, but the link you want to use.
Web cam sellers do not mention dial-up links because the slow speed will result in a very poor picture that only updates intermittently - like very bad stop-motion animation. An overseas link will not help either.
Any web cam should work with dial up, I would expect, but the result is unlikely to satisfy your wife or her family!
Try it with the cheapest set up you can find, and link up with a friend over here also via dial-up, to see what the results are like.
You might consider, however, a better result could be achieved with a low spec camera capable of taking videos, and send video messages via email.
Best of Luck.

Thanks for the very clear and concise answer! :) I think I'll have to try both because you're very correct............. it's all about keeping the little woman happy. I'll have to look at the camera specs as I think that some of those will record with the correct software.
Thanks again!
Merry Christmas, Happy belated Hannukah, Happy Kwaanza or just plain..... "Have a Nice Day!"
