I am trying to burn some avi/divx videos to dvd. I am using Nero 7 pro at the moment. When I come to burn I get the message that the file is too big. I have heard of DVD shrink. Do I use something like this..compressit to hard drive and then burn from that file? Whats an iso? Would appreciate any help. Many thanks

DVD Shrink is for DVD format video. It will NOT work on AVI/DiVX video. If you are wanting DVDs that can play in a set-topplayer then you will need to use a program to convert the video to VOBs (DVD video).

Thnaks ro replies Do you know of a free simple way of converting the avi/DivX to VOB please? Is VOB the standard format for burning dvd videos? A bit lost here. Thanks

Thanks . Read that and it sort of made sense. Am I barking up the wrong tree in the beginning by downloading avi and div x films? Should I be looking for another more common format that makes everything easier? There are so many programs on the net and instructions that seem to differ in approach.

You should look for a DVD authoring application that will accept DivX and/or AVI as input. It will then reencode the video in MPEG format and create the VOB files and other necessary files for creating a DVD.

The answer to that question is probably no. DivX and AVI are the most prevalent video file types for sharing. Video in DVD format with consist of several files IFO's BUP's and VOB's. And you will likely get several of each - a VOB can be no more than 1GB so a 3.5GB video would need 4 VOBs.

I have not used Window Movie maker, but it would be the first place I would look for a free solution. For a paid solution you could use Nero, Pinnacle or many others. On that note, I would guess that AVI would have better support than DivX as import files.

You have Nero. Open the files that you want for the DVD and burn to hard disc instead of a DVD disc. Ignore the warnings about it not fitting on disc, you are using the HD.

When it's on the HD, use DVD Shrink to open the VIDEO_TS folder and shrink it, then burn to DVD.

Thanks. Managed to get one film onto hard drive with Audio and Video TS folders. Burnt the video TS to dvd as Shrink would still not see this file. The result was a film without sound! A bit of a novice here methinks! Once I have thses two folders I cant understand why Shrink is not seeing the file. Should I have put both Audio and Video on the burn at once? Problems are still with dvd shrink though. Your help is apprciated.
Thanks

Using Avi to dvd now. I noticed what I am trying to burn is sometimes audio MP3. I am trying to change it using the program to MP2 in Avi2DVD. It wont find the MP3 part where the file was located? Sorry to be a nuisance. thanks

when in Nero use nero vision, choose make dvd video, place video file in window, check to see if nero is set for dvd9, you want dvd5, also go to the "more" tab, then then "video options" tab, then change video quality down until file fits, usually there is no real noticable loss of quality. Nero is(usually) able to convert nearly any video file to dvd structure(and burn it) without any other program. hope this helps-BB

I have the lateset version of Nero 7 Ultra Enhanced Edition ... trying to burn avi movies tha ti downloaded from the internet, everytime when I tried to use Nero Vision to burn it, everything seems to be fine, setting is set to Auto fit to disc and doesn't seem to be too big for the 4.7GB DVD disc, but always, in the middle of the burning process, it always tells me that the file is too big for the disc and asks me to insert another bigger disc, but it's already set to Auto fit to disc, why am i having this problem? my brother used the same program and have no problems burning even two files on one disc, my file is the same size he has, what should I do? and if I tried to reduce the quality, the audio/video will be out of sync, i need help, doublejl@aol.com, thx
