Video freezes every few minutes

July 5, 2009 at 20:06:33
Specs: Windows XP

While watching .AVI videos (i am not sure if it is limited to this format but its all i have) it freezes every few minutes then skips ahead a few seconds. I have tried watching it in VLC, Windows Media Player, and DivX player, all do the same thing. I have the correct codecs and have never had trouble with it before a few days ago. I recently reformatted my harddrive to see if it would fix the issue to no avail. My computer sometimes blue screens me with "data_inpage_error" but this seems to happen only when i click on the start menu while watching a movie. my avi files are on a seperate hard drive than the player and i read that the inpage error has to do with my driving going bad or the cable connecting it. I have tested these and they are good. I have video games on this drive as well that work perfectly. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks for any help

What are your specs? Does it freeze at the same places durring the video or random? What do you have running in the background? Have you updated your video card software?

Hi,

This is my first post, so sorry no answers, but again i have the same problem.

I have checked and it is every 20 mins give or take a few seconds when the movie freezes. As 'Ibs' states above, the picture stops but sound continues. I have not let it run to see if it corrects itself, I just Ctrl, Alt + Del, then it works fine for another 20 mins. (This happens with WMP and Nero)

I have only had this problem since i installed a new gaphics card and another 2Gb Ram. (All drivers and codecs are up to date)

Manufacturer: Foxconn
Model: Oem
OS: Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium
CPU/Ram: 1.9 GHz / 3053 MB
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 9400 GT
Sound Card: High Definition Audio Device

Please help.

Thanks in advance.

Same Problem. Started happening after I installed
Windows 7 RTM

Video plays normally for approx 5 minutes. Then it freezes at
that point. No sound during the freeze. After about a minute it
resumes again and has skipped forward.

During the freeze the Media player window freezes. I can
minimize it normally. Browsers continue to work. Windows
Explorer might or might not freeze. Torrent download works
fine but upload rate keeps coming down and hits zero. Starts
uploading again after the video has resumed. This sounds
particularly strange. As is something is hijacking and sending
data. I have tried after disconnecting from the internet. Same
problem again.

Specs are as folows:
Asus G1S T7500 Core 2 Duo
Mobile Intel PM965 Chipset
2 GB RAM
Nvidia 8600 GT 256 MB with latest Windows 7 Drivers
High Def Audio
Hitachi Hard Disk 160 GB

Media Software (all giving same problem):
VLC Player
ALL Player
iTunes
WinX Iphone converter
YouTube Downloader

It doesn't seem to be a hardware or OS issue looking at the
specs here.

More like a worm/virus or software issues.

Could everyone please confirm their software and virus scan
results?

Could anyone check if the video still freezes if played from an
external USB drive? I have a feeling its a hard disk issue.

I seem to be talking to myself here..But for those running Intel
Chipsets and compatible with Intel Matrix Storage Manager..try
installing it. Or any other driver which may control you hard disk.
