How you would proceed would depend on what video editing software you use. They all do things alittle different. What are you using?

Adobe Premiere can do what you want, as I'm sure could any NLE (Non-Linear Editing) software.

Please let us know if you found someone's advice to be helpful.

Windows Based NLE Software I suggest you should use are:

If you've got a slow system:

Sony Vegas 5.0-6.0...its very user friendly.

If you've got a more than decent system:

Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0 (going to take a while to get used to)

and

Avid (complicated...but industry favorite next to Mac's Final Cut)

or try Windows Movie Maker, download Service Pack 2 and it should come along with the more "advanced" movie maker. Plus, you need Service Pack 2 if you want to run Adobe Premiere 2.0

Good luck.

Oh and try lynda.com...nice tutorials there.
