I would like to use my XBOX 360 as a Media Center Extender. I have lots of videos on my hard drive that I would like to stream from my PC. Most of my files are AVI apparently the 360 doesn't recognize that format, so I decided to try and convert them to WMV. The problem is after the videos are done converting their properties still say they are AVI files. I have used WINAVI, Nero, and DVDSanta, and they all end up with the same result. Can someone tell me why this is or suggest better conversion software? it would be greatly appreciated. thanks!

Have you tried Windows Movie Maker to convert them? If WMM will open them it should certainly be able to convert them to WMV files.

I've tried both the Movie and DVD Makers and I can't seem to find how to convert I've been to the help menu but it only talks about converting pictures. can someone please help. I'm getting a little tired of sitting in my uncomfortable computer desk chair to watch a movie.

In WMM: Import your file and drag into the storyboard. Click file/save movie file. Next, pick category to save on your computer. Next, name the file and save location. Next, tick "other settings" and pick the appropriate file type you want from the drop-down list. If you want to play them on TV, High Quality Video(NTSC) will likely be the best pick.
